I have to agree with Reed. I think it makes things harder by
changing key in every other measure of "Just Friends" (Cmaj to Bbmaj to
Gmaj to Abmaj, etc). It's much simpler to think of the key the song is
in and base the chords in that context. If you play the chords like
this:
Cmaj7 | | Cmmaj7 (or Cm6)| |Gmaj7| |Bbdim | |Am7 etc.
you get a better idea of how the harmony moves in the Gmaj context. You
can hear the plagal cadence, and the diminished quality clearer.
