can someone fill me in on secodnary dominants? from what i understand,
they are modes of the chords derived from the home key but do not relate
to the home key themselves, i.e.: in a Cmaj ii-V7-I, an A-7 would be the
ii of the V chord (dorian mode of the G7 chord). i was tought a while
ago that a good scale to use in this situation is a harmonic minor
derived as follows: spell the secondary dominant (to the 7th) and plug
in all notes from the home key for the 2, 4, 6. From this, you should
arrive at a secondary dominant, right?

help me! please set me straight on this.

thanks,
