Congratulations, Muchan: you have just re-invented the Altered or
Diminished Whole Tone scale :-) It's often used over augmented 7th
chords, e.g. G7+5(b9,#9). But I'd be proud to have discovered that
myself without prior knowledge... I had to read about in a theory
book and play it a couple of times before I appreciated the sound.
Now I (ab)use it constantly, e.g. over the last G7 in Blue Bossa.
This is my first message to the list, so let me take the opportunity
to mention that I love this resource; it's a privilege for a relative
beginner like me to be able to (virtually) sit in on such a high-level
discussion of jazz harmony, and I have benefited tremendously from it
in the few months I've been lurking here. Thanks to Reed for making
it possible (I know how much work and hassle is required to run these
mailing lists). Long may it flourish.
Regards,
Dugan
P.S. Any Madrid-based jazzers reading this are welcome to contact me
by e-mail. [What I hesitate to call] my band urgently needs a wind
section, for instance... Don't be shy, we're all rank beginners, and
when I say rank I really mean RANK ;-)
