And so I started playing piano, too. Now usually I practise flute
till 9pm, and then switch to piano (with headphone) till 0, 1, 2am...
I spend much more time in front of keyboard than behind guitar.
(which 'used to be' my main instrument). But I hopefully think it
affect positive to my guitar playing, too. It enhances 'prehearing
of sound' very much, so that now I can think of music quite independent
from my finger movement. 'Fingers should follow my ear' is my creed.)
Well, as a beginner, I'm working on Levine's book. Trying to do
his suggestions literally. "practise everything in every key".
Now I came to the end of Chapter 7, and as suggested, I started to
work on GaintSteps (at first its original key in Eb).
I confess to roosterl, it's not easy tune at all.
(Doing and listening is quite different thing, indeed) Said to myself,
"unless you learn to be capable of playing such basic thing, don't
expect to play any meaningful improvisation! You learn? or give up?"
When enough motivated, go on concentrating. Because I confused
too much at the beginning, I set tempo at MM=70, v_e_r_y s_l_o_w
and played in simplest voicing possible. It's hard to make mistakes
in such tempo, but it needs concentration anyway.
Ones fingers catch the voice leading, it start to flow, and soon I
came to MM=120, then I started to add one more voice, then again
from MM=70, slowly coming to MM=116, then start to think about
voicing more seriously, so that it doesn't crash against melody,
and again from MM=70... with MIDI device easy to program Bass & Drums.
Here is so far my best voicing. It sounds good to my ear.
(nobody care? Pianists knows all, and non-pianists don't need to
read...
jazz is not for writing at all.) Now I come to MM=130, I'll try as fast
tempo I can go with before practising it in every other keys...
... and lower the tempo and try voicing on fly... learning is art of
infinity...
And I'll appreciate any suggestion from pianists.
