Pre-1940 guitarists

This may not be the correct list for this question, but I am seeking opinions
on who are the most pivitol guitarists of the pre-1940's (e.g., Eddie Lange,
Charlie Christian, Django, etc.), along with an archtypical example of the
styles they developed. The example tunes should be available on CD, if
possible.

I am compiling a presentation for the Sacramento Traditional Jazz Society next
month.
