Notation on the List

Hey, List--

I've been thinking that what our otherwise great forum here lacks is
a little technology. That is, we're text-only, but we're trying to
discuss music--and without notational tools, we're kinda hamstrung. Any
ideas here? I have a suggestion -- what about attaching files with
notational material? Some possible formats would include the NIFF files
type, which is supposed to be a growing standard, and I know is
supported by Lime (notation program) and MIDISCAN (music-to-MIDI
converter). Alternatively, we could use the NWC format used by
Noteworthy Composer. The advantage there is that the NWC Player program
is freeware, so everyone on the list could both view and *play* any
accompanying musical examples. I use NWC, and like it very much. It is
available @ www.ntworthy.com, incidentally.

I think Reed has used PDF files for this as well...and Acrobat Reader
is freeware, although there would be no capability for music playback
using this.

What do you all think? Reed, since it's your list--what's your
preference?

peace,
Skip
