Apart from the common usage of this chord as a kind of tritone sub with a half
step resolution there seems to be another very common conventional usage where
the harmonic logic is less obvious... This is when it precedes a II-V turn
around i.e. D13#11 to Dm9 to G13 as in measure 11 and 12 of Cherokee. It
certainly sounds logical. Can anyone explain this? My best theory is that the
#11 may be the beginnings of a tritone sub leading to the G13.
