When I was a kid, I attended Stan Kenton summer jazz camps for five years.
I remember Stan telling us that jazz "feels" are not as intellectual as they
are physical. He said that body movement, of some sort, was good (he also used
to say that to June Chisty) and almost required.

One might tap the foot on 2&4, move your head slightly on various beats or bend
forward in the same manner. I cannot imagine a time when there was never
this physical expression of jazz feels. I'll have to check some of my videos
of Monk and Basie.
