Yes, the interval is a minor 6th, but it is NOT 1 b6 in the key, it's 3

Your second definition is the accurate one above.

What version of "Confirmation" are you refering to? I thought the first
two notes were A to C in the key of F, making it the 3rd and 5th of an F
chord, and the interval a minor 3rd.
