I purchased Ed's first book. I found it thorough, maybe too much so. It
give many examples of the same thing and many variations on a theme.
Maybe that kind of repition is good for some people. It certainly had
all the concepts covered.

On the recommendation of a friend I bought Todd Coolman's walking bass
line book. I believe it was only $9.95 or so. I am in love with this
book. It distills everything down to it's essence and has you practice
various levels of lines on tunes you are learning. It is a small book
packed with great insights. It has the same ideas as Ed's book but is
presented in a more practical way, in my opinion. It gives practice
exercises at each level of the book. If you actually do them you will be
amazed at the results.

Just one more alternative.
