Transcribing

I am not very good at transcribing but here is something that sorta works
for me in trying to write out guitar solos I want to learn. I have a CD
player that allows you to set repeats using intervals as short as three
seconds. What I do is note start and stop times (on the track) of a lick or
portion of a solo and then set those repeats. The selection will continue
to repeat until the memory is cleared. Next I try to play along with the CD
until I have it pretty darn close and then I put it into notation using
Encore. I don't know if all CD players have this type of repeat feature,
most have only a full track or disc repeat. Maybe not as elegant as a
slow-down tape or digital thing but it seems to work.
