On the topic of improvisation, personally I never really think
about chord progressions, and scales. You just can't screw up. You
have to make sure that it sounds good. I've never worried about
guide tones. When I'm improvising, I play what I think. If I
actually get what I think to come out of the horn - great! If I
don't, oh well, keep going. Play what ya wanna
