But remember Benny Goodman used Charlie Christian in his group for a
while, and CC was deeply interested in chromaticism as one of the
pioneers of "pre-bop" if not really bebop. He jammed at Mintons with Diz
and Theolonius Monk et al. Goodman wasn't far from the phenomenon.
