Hi Marc and others,

Still following the discussion about what is enough theory.

A simple way to look at the problem is this. You study from the left
(intellectual) brain. You play from the "right" brain. Obviously there is
an overlap on both sides but the model seems true.

When I learn new ideas, patterns, tunes, solos, instumental technique - I
consciously study them. It takes time and effort. The payoff is down the
line on the bandstand when these things come out of my horn because I am
"hearing" them, not thinking them. I have integrated the material into my
musical world and it comes out in a natural way.

Miles said "play what you hear, not what you know". Studying music
increases what you eventually hear.

Bright Moments you all
