Wouldn't you agree that *all* improvised solos are composed, whether or not
they are transcribed or written down? It just takes longer to write them
down. When one improvises three minutes of a jazz chorus, isn't that three
minutes of composed music? Igor Stravinsky once said something like
"Composition is nothing more than slow improvisation." So, to write three
minutes of music might take a couple of hours, or, a couple of days if it is
committed to paper, but not on the bandstand.

Hmmmmm..... Not necessarily. You have demonstrated quite well that these
methods can be used as tools for learning/improving one's improvisational
skills. After you mentioned transcribing I became aware that I have been
doing that unconciously for years. And, still do. I suspect that is why
jazz is so fascinating--"Wow! Did you hear what he played over that change?"
You mentioned some analysis of some classical works starting after Jan. 1.....
