composing

I think the first paragraph of my original post may have been
a little unclear when I wrote about melody length. I gave
the impression I was writing about completed melodies. I'm not.
I meant to say while I'm shaping these melodies I don't really think
about the length, and it'd be a pretty good guess to say the length
of the finished product may be a little unconventional. Is this
problematic? Is this the result of a lack of study? Or, is this just
a matter of personal style?
