Subject: Latin improv.

I consider myself to be a straight-ahead trombone player. I feel
really
comfortable with swing/bop etc. improvising. But when it comes to
improvising over Sambas, Bossa Novas, etc. I seem to have trouble.
It
isn't the changes, but it seems that I don't have any rhythmic ideas
that
fit the style. How do I go about making more intelligent rhythmic
ideas
come out in these styles?

Jeffrey,

Are you listening to other players in that style? I recommend
Conrad Herwig-trombone who has played with Eddie Palmeri Band
and I believe Conrad has just released his own CD.
Maybe check out Jerry Gonzalez & the Fort Apache Band he gets
into a nice Latin groove with good soloist.
I believe to really learn a style you need to listen how other
professionals approach it, get it in your ear.

Lots of Luck
