I've been demoing the CoolEdit myself, and it works ok. A friend has a
more expensive pro sound editing program which seemed to be a lot
cleaner, but I've fooled around with it for a short while, and not used
it for transcribing. I'm not sure it's so much better as to justify its
$700 price tag.
