What's harder is a new key that moves me to a new set of positions.
Taking "Body and Soul" from Db to Ab would be an order of magnitude
harder than Db to D, or F.
The limits of the guitar and the positional issues have led me away from
playing in "all keys" to thinking of being comfortable in about 3
"positions" for a particular song, even if just to have variety because,
staying in the same key, moving to different positions opens up other
possibilities.
The one thing I don't like about his approach is that it has me thinking
completely about the guitar positions. I might not actually know what
chords I'm playing where if I'm offsetting a familiar set of positions
several frets. Some would say that's no problem, I'm thinking only of
music and the instrument, not of labels. Others I imagine would see it
differently.
