The Dm7 in bar 3 made me think of something else.

Starting with bar 3:

Eb Dm7 | Cm7 Cm7/Bb | Am7 | D7 | .....

Or if you are willing to add an Eb melody approach note going into
the D at the beginning of bar 5 you can have:

Eb Dm7 | Cm7 Bbm7 | Am7 | D7 | ....
