: Thanks--
I have been looking for an orchestral version of this song ("Johnny Come
Lately") on CD; only piano and piano duets are available --as far as I
can tell.
The version I heard live (at the Blue Note performance), had a wonderful,
predatory bass line, with those signature Strayhorn piano riffs at the
beginning, that later began to trace the bass line in a parallel harmony.
The changes are very interesting, and deceptively simple.
I didn't know about Aebersold's Strayhorn book!
Thanks again,
Michael
