His message specifically stated that he hoped he would get the
help this group usually provides. That is often but not always from
you; in any case, he did say "the group". Reread his message.

I think the problem is that you view this list as a place for people to ask
you questions (all of which you've answered already and are somewhere in
your previous posts or your web page), while some people are used to the
more usual model of a mailing list where the discussion is open to anybody
who wants to talk about anything on the topic, for the pleasure and
edification inherent in doing so. Of course it's your list and you can run
it however you want, but you might try to be sensitive to the fact that
some people here might not understand what your vision of the list is.
Namely, do you want this to be a place where we can feel free to ask any
on-topic question in hopes that another of us will feel like answering, or
is it a place where
all questions must build without repetition on a theme which you are
developing, and is becoming a book you are writing? In any case, even if
you want to guide the course of the discussion, the way in which you tell
people they are off topic is usually incredibly rude and arrogant. I think
this list is more about your starving ego than jazz, and I've had enough.

I know, I know, you don't need my advice about how to run a mailing list,
etc. etc. etc. You already know more than everyone else about everything.
