I found that if the dominant 7 chord has all 4 unaltered notes(and no more),
I can still play a #5 against it and sound 'decent'. It actually sounds 'sad'.
This is something Lee Morgan did in his 'Ceora' solo.

The b5, b9, #9, 6, 9 all seem to work because they are chord extensions anyway.
I get that the only 'bad' notes are the 4'th(unless there is no third in the
voicing) and the maj 7.
