What extra level could things be taken too with midi files or band in
the box and how would that work?
I would prefer to see people work things out carefully and put them
into Finale or in some written form.
If we have midi, were are going to have thousands of posts of people
jamming into a sequencer and wanting to post that.
For example, someone could play bass lines into a sequencer and then
transcribe them from the midi themselves, and then post that if they
want. If the material is that interesting, it's worth going through
all this effort.
I'm concerned about material quality on the list and don't want to
make it easy for people to post things. We aleardy have a pretty
high volume list. People should be assured that if they spend alot
of time reading a post and working through things, that they will
get alot out of it.
It's alot of work to do a good post. I talk off the top of my head alot
but I've already worked out what I'm going to say on alot of issues way
before I started the list.
My student David Nabors did an excellent post on midi
and transcribing issues for mac users. There is also alot of valuable
information about band in the box tune sites, etc. He spent about a month
and a half on that one post. It involved alot of research and he put together
his own webpages to summarize and outline the information. I'm guessing
probably 80 hours or more went into that one post and he's a really busy
guy to put that much time into that.
