A substantial portion of my time is spent teaching and
playing music (and running this list).
This seems an appropriate time to say this, forgive me
for being temporarily guilty of a non-theory post:
I am just in amazement at this mailing list. I've bneen
on the internet since 1978, and have seen many mailing lists,
many of which I've subscribed to and dropped or seen fizzle.
But though the volume here is vast, I still find myself
saving about 80% of the posts to come back to after I
finish my dissertation proposal. Alas, my "theory" file
is so huge now it would takes months just to properly
study what I have now. This is primarily caused by
saving all of Reed's posts. Along with those of
several other contributors, these are the best and
most enlightening discussion of jazz theroy I've
ever encountered, a topic very near and dear to
my heart in the last year or so. I can see how
much time Reed puts in to this and I don't want
to miss a bit. Only, I'm going to have to go
buy another hard drive or a syquest or something.
I can see why you are involved in teaching jazz,
Reed, you are exceptionally gifted at it. Even
though each day I say "I have to quite this mailling
list, I'll never catch up as it is to what I already
have", I still cull through all the messages and
save the good stuff. Many thanks to all the
contributors here and especially Reed.
BTW, thanks Frank for the further response
regarding my question about Cherokee.
